The primary objective of this institute is to integrate the diverse research lines related to marine studies at the University of Concepci\u00f3n, aspiring to become a prominent reference both nationally and internationally, promoting interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary cooperation in exploring the dynamics and sustainability of oceans, thereby enhancing the welfare of the country and the planet.<\/p>\n<p>The institute seeks to play a crucial role internationally, particularly in relation to the High Seas Treaty (BBNJ, Biodiversity beyond National Jurisdiction), while also addressing the ocean&#8217;s role in the challenging economic conditions faced by the Biob\u00edo region.
