As part of LACQUA 2025, the Interdisciplinary Center for Aquaculture Research (INCAR) will host a workshop featuring national and international experts to discuss integrative scientific approaches that address current and future challenges in aquaculture across Latin America and the Caribbean.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\nFor the first time, Chile will host the annual meeting of the Latin American and Caribbean Chapter of the World Aquaculture Society (WAS), LACQUA25. The event will take place from October 6 to 9 in the city of Puerto Varas.<\/p>\n
The congress will bring together experts on globally relevant topics for the development, sustainability, and growth of aquaculture in Latin America and the Caribbean. It will also feature one of the largest regional trade exhibitions, showcasing a wide range of products and services for the sector.<\/p>\n
Under the theme \u201cGovernance: A Pillar for Sustainable Aquaculture in the Context of Climate Change,\u201d the Organizing Committee is already working on the event\u2019s details, which will include keynote lectures by international and national aquaculture experts, oral and poster presentations of scientific work, workshops, symposia on key aquaculture topics, and recreational activities for participants.<\/p>\n
In this context, INCAR will host the symposium titled \u201cInterdisciplinary Science to Address the Complex Challenges of Current and Future Aquaculture.\u201d<\/p>\n
The workshop will be held at Hotel Enjoy in Puerto Varas on Wednesday, October 8, starting at 10:30 AM. Through five presentations and a discussion panel, it will explore diverse experiences in interdisciplinary approaches to tackle pressing and complex challenges in aquaculture.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe symposium will address internal and external pressures on the sector, including ecological and productive interactions at the scale of landscapes and water bodies, climate change, social perceptions of aquaculture, environmental and economic implications of diseases, socio-environmental conflicts, among others. We hope the presentations and final panel discussion will highlight the potential of interdisciplinary science to advance innovation and governance in support of more sustainable aquaculture,\u201d said symposium coordinator and INCAR Principal Investigator, Dr. Doris Soto.<\/p>\n
INCAR researchers participating in the symposium include Dr. Doris Soto, Dr. Cristian Gallardo-Esc\u00e1rate, Dr. Valentina Valenzuela-Mu\u00f1oz, Dr. Rodrigo Montes, Dr. Jorge Dresdner, and Dr. Jorge Le\u00f3n-Mu\u00f1oz. Also participating is Dr. Janaina Mitzue, Aquaculture Production Systems Researcher at EMBRAPA (Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation), who will address the role of aquaculture in the blue economy.<\/p>\n
