Biography
La Dra. Doris Soto Benavides es Licenciada en Biología de la Facultad de Ciencias de la Universidad de Chile (1978) y posee un Doctorado en Ecología de UC Davis en Estados Unidos (1988).
En 1990 se integró a la Universidad Austral de Chile en Puerto Montt, donde desarrolló el Laboratorio de Ecología Acuática, especializándose en el estudio de las implicaciones ambientales de la acuicultura y las interacciones entre acuicultura y la pesca. Allí, la Dra. Soto formó un gran número de estudiantes de pregrado y postgrado y lideró numerosos proyectos científicos en activo trabajo con el sector público y privado.
En el 2005 la Dra. Soto se une a la Organización de las Naciones Unidas para la Alimentación (FAO) en Roma, Italia, como Oficial Senior, a cargo de los programas y actividades relacionadas con la acuicultura y medioambiente, incluyendo el cambio climático, a nivel global. Allí lideró diversos proyectos e iniciativas en distintos países de Europa, Asia, África y América Latina.
La investigadora ha publicado más de 50 trabajos científicos en revistas de alto nivel y numerosas publicaciones de la FAO incluyendo directrices globales y recomendaciones de políticas.
A mediados del 2016 la Dra. Soto regresa a Chile para unirse al Centro Interdisciplinario para la Investigación Acuícola (INCAR), al alero de la Universidad de Concepción, trabajando desde Puerto Montt, donde lidera el área de cambio climático y acuicultura y el desarrollo e implementación del enfoque ecosistémico en la acuicultura.
