On Friday, September 8th, Pablo Carrasco, Society Engagement Coordinator at INCAR, participated in the 5th Integrated Management Conference: Environment, Occupational Risks, and Social Responsibility. Sustainability: Challenges and Opportunities for Organizations. This cinference was organized by the Master’s Program in Integrated Management: Environment, Occupational Risks, and Corporate Social Responsibility, from the Faculties of Environmental Sciences, Biological Sciences, and Engineering at the University of Concepción.
During the event, Pablo Carrasco introduced the study titled “Integrated Management Model for the Sustainable Development of Fishing Coves: The Case of Rinconada de Taucú, Ñuble Region”. This study was co-authored by Dr. Ricardo Barra, an academic from UdeC, and Dr. Renato Quiñones, the Director of the INCAR center. The research studied five fishing coves, including Rinconada de Taucú, which holds great importance as a local development area. The study has determined that the Rinconada caleta presents significant opportunities for the sustainable development of fishing coves due to its rich natural and cultural heritage, its ability to attract a large number of tourists, and its abundant fishing resources of high quality. Nevertheless, there are several key challenges that need to be addressed, including inadequate waste management practices, insufficient implementation of security measures, low compliance rates among fishermen on an annual basis, and organizational inefficiencies. In order to tackle these issues, the authors propose the adoption of an integrated management model that is based on the Ecological Approach, ISO 26000 Fundamental Materials, and the “Caletas Law” (Ley 20.027).
