The INCAR International Seminar on diseases in fish crops in Latin America concludes its second session on Wednesday October 11th

On Wednesday, October 11th, the second and final day of the International Seminar “Fish Diseases in Latin American Crops: Diagnosis, Treatment, and Prevention” will take place. The event is organized by INCAR and led by Dr. Ruben Avendaño Herrera, Principal Investigator of the “Animal Health in Freshwater Life Stages of Salmonids” line at INCAR.

The second session will bring together 5 other specialists from countries such as Peru, Brazil, Cuba, Costa Rica, and Chile. Among the experts presenting, Dr. Adrián López-Porras from FYSCELL, Department of Biosciences, University of Oslo-Norway, will deliver a talk titled “Edwardsiellosis: Current Status and Future Perspectives”. During his presentation, the researcher will discuss the main research advancements in combating Edwardsiellosis, focusing on the determination of genetic variability among different Edwardsiella species, the use of currently available vaccines that provide cross-protection, and the research and development of candidate vaccines.

Meanwhile, Dr. Jaime Figueroa, Principal Investigator at INCAR and an Academic at Universidad Austral de Chile, will conclude the seminar presentations with his talk on “Piscirickettsia salmonis, a persistent bacterial pathogen in salmonid farming in Chile: Evolution of its genome 35 years after its discovery.”
