The Cargill Fresh Water Summit will take place on October 25th at Dreams Hotel in Valdivia, Chile. This event will feature prominent speakers from the national and international aquaculture industry, including Dr. Jorge León-Muñoz, INCAR Associate Researcher and Academic at the Faculty of Sciences of Universidad Católica de la Santísima Concepción (UCSC). Dr. León-Muñoz will present on the section “Development of Chilean salmon farming under changing landscapes and climate scenarios”.
Regarding his participation, Dr. León-Muñoz stated, “I strongly believe that it is important for the various stakeholders involved in the development of salmon farming to discuss the present and future challenges of this industry. In particular, it is important to consider how to lead sustainable development in landscapes with multiple uses. For instance, a significant portion of Chilean salmon farming’s freshwater production takes place in basins where actors with various other interests, such as production, tourism, and conservation, converge. In this scenario, the industry must strive to understand and project the role it will play in the coming decades, especially considering the climate change projections for the central-southern region of Chile.”
