Dr. Doris Soto attended the inaugural Seminar on Climate Change and Sustainability in Salmon Farming organized by Salmonexpert

On December 13th, Dr. Doris Soto, Principal Researcher at Centro INCAR, participated in the inauguration of the Salmonexpert Seminars: “Climate Change: A Sustainable Approach to Salmon Farming.” The event, organized by Salmonexpert Magazine and held at the Cumbres Hotel in Puerto Varas, showcased the latest scientific advancements in salmon farming and discussed topics of innovation. Additionally, the new compendium “Learning Aquaculture Volume VIII” was launched, focusing on sustainability and climate change. This publication was a collaborative effort led by Dr. Soto, in partnership with various experts in the field.

During her presentation, titled “Salmon Farming and Climate Change: Progress and Pending Challenges in Chile,” Dr. Soto discussed the challenges faced by salmon farming in Chile, including the need for integrated monitoring systems, contingency plans, and better public-private cooperation. During her presentation, Dr. Soto emphasized that, although progress has been made in addressing climate change adaptation, there are still gaps and costs associated with these measures. In an interview with Salmonexpert, Dr. Soto highlighted the launch of the Volume VIII of the compendium “Learning Aquaculture,” aiming to provide a comprehensive overview of scientific information. This compendium required substantial efforts to present the main topics in a simple and comprehensive manner, covering the extensive research conducted in this field. A task was particularly challenging as scientific information is not always easily accessible to users.
