The Interdisciplinary Center for Aquaculture Research (INCAR) is hosting a seminar on August 6 in Concepción, titled “Oysters in Chile: Opportunities and Challenges for Aquaculture Diversification.” This event will convene experts from both national and international backgrounds.
The Pacific or Japanese oyster and the Chilean oyster are recognized as promising candidates for diversifying small-scale aquaculture, given their ability to be cultivated in various farming systems and their adaptability to a range of biophysical conditions, such as salinity and temperature fluctuations along the Chilean coastline. As a result, their production could provide new economic opportunities for local communities. The seminar at Universidad de Concepción will feature discussions led by several experts, including Dr. Steven Roberts from the University of Washington, Dr. Cristian Gallardo-Escárate, Deputy Director of INCAR, and Dr. Francisco Cárcamo from the Department of Restocking and Cultivation at IFOP, among others.
Interested individuals are encouraged to register by emailing centroincar@udec.cl, as seating is limited. The seminar program can be downloaded here.
