New INCAR Policy Brief provides a series of recommendations intended to effectively manage the interplay between fishing and aquaculture as part of the new legislative framework

The INCAR Center’s researchers, Dr. Jessica Fuentes and Dr. Carlos Molinet, have proposed a series of recommendations to undertake the relationship between fishing and aquaculture considering the forthcoming legislative changes. These recommendations are outlined in Policy Brief 17 from the center. The document delves into the relationship between fishing and aquaculture activities, focusing on benthic resources, and underscores the pressing legal gaps that need to be rectified in the crafting of new Fisheries and Aquaculture Laws, guided by an ecosystem-based approach.

The discussions led by INCAR have underscored gaps and deficiencies in the existing legislation that require attention. We encourage you to download and review Policy Brief 17: “Recommendations for Navigating the Interaction Between Fisheries and Aquaculture in the New Fisheries and Aquaculture Legislation.”
