Dr. Alex Romero has been appointed as the Vice-Rector of Research, Development, and Artistic Creation at Universidad Austral de Chile (UACh)

Dr. Alex Romero Zúñiga, academic at the Universidad Austral de Chile (UACh) and Associate Researcher in the ” Animal Health in Marine Environment ” line at the INCAR center, has been appointed as the Vice-Rector of the Vice-Rectorate for Research, Development, and Artistic Creation (VIDCA) at UACh.

Dr. Romero-Zuñiga seeks to direct the Vice-Rectorate with a strong and proactive management strategy, which will greatly bolster UACh’s competitive position in research, development, and innovation through an interdisciplinary and cutting-edge viewpoint.

Dr. Romero Zúñiga, a biochemist who graduated from UACh in 1998, earned his Ph.D. in Cellular and Molecular Biology from the same institution in 2006. He is an academic at the Institute of Animal Pathology within the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences, focusing on immunology and molecular biology of aquatic organisms, genomic characterization, and molecular diagnostics of viral and bacterial pathogens in fish. Throughout his academic career, he has led and participated in various national and international research and development projects. He has also supervised and co-supervised undergraduate and graduate theses (Master’s and Doctorate) at UACh and other universities, as well as postdoctoral projects.

Dr. Romero Zúñiga has been a member of the FONDECYT Animal Health and Production Study Group and is affiliated with the Chilean Society of Biology. Currently, he directs the Laboratory of Immunology and Stress in Aquatic Organisms at the Institute of Animal Pathology, where he has established a strong scientific output, national and international collaboration networks, and community engagement. He is also an Associate Researcher at the INCAR Center in the “Animal Health in Marine Environment, RP3” line.
