Three students from the “Animal Health in Marine Environment” line (RP3) at the INCAR Center have successfully completed their undergraduate and graduate study programs.

Three students from the “Animal Health in the Marine Environments” research line (RP3) of INCAR Center successfully completed their undergraduate and postgraduate programs. The three students carried out their theses in the Stress Immunology and Aquatic Organisms Laboratory, under the supervision of Dr. Alex Romero, Associate Researcher at INCAR, based at Universidad Austral de Chile (UACh). The theses were funded by the FONDECYT Regular project 1231761in collaboration with the Biotechnology Lab of ICYTAL-UACh, and co-funded by INES Género (INGE 220001 – ANID, INGE 2024-08).

On May 13th, Juan Antonio Pérez, earned a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry, with highest distinction, after completing the thesis titled “Effect of Salinity on the Morphofunctional Integrity of Intestinal Epithelial Cells in Rainbow Trout and Its Relationship with Piscirickettsia salmonis Infection.”

On May 22nd, Matías Vega Neira earned a Master of Science in Biochemical Biotechnology degree, with the highest distinction, with the thesis titled “Evaluation of the Protective Effect of a Polyphenol-Enriched Phytogenic Extract on the Integrity of RTGutGC Intestinal Epithelial Cells of Rainbow Trout against Infection by Piscirickettsia salmonis.”

Finally, on May 23rd, Diego Cárcamo Agüero earned his Master of Science in Biotechnology, with grade the highes distinction with the thesis titled “In Vitro Evaluation of a Brewery Spent Grain Extract with Potential Effect Against Piscirickettsia salmonis Infection in Salmonid Intestinal Epithelial Cell Lines.
