From November 30 to December 4, 2025, the city of Puerto Varas will become the hub of fish health knowledge as it hosts a new edition of the Sealice Conference—the world’s leading scientific event focused on sea lice research. This year’s conference will bring together more than 300 participants from Chile and other countries worldwide.
Since its first edition in Paris in 1992, the Sea Lice Conference has brought together researchers, regulators, decision-makers, and industry representatives to share findings, discuss common challenges, and develop strategies to address this complex issue. To date, 13 editions have been held in different cities around the world. The last time the event took place in Chile was in 2018, in the city of Punta Arenas.
Sea lice represent one of the greatest challenges to global salmon farming, causing significant impacts on the environment, the economic sustainability of the industry, and raising important questions regarding animal health and welfare. In this context, Puerto Varas, located in southern Chile and part of the Patagonian region—one of the world’s main salmon-producing areas—will host the event.
The 2025 edition is jointly organized by the Interdisciplinary Center for Aquaculture Research (INCAR), the Institute of Aquaculture and Environment of the Austral University of Chile, and the Salmon Technology Institute (INTESAL). The program will highlight key topics such as the biology, epidemiology, and genetics of sea lice; control strategies and treatment resistance; animal welfare and fish health; environmental interactions; and regulatory frameworks.
The scientific program will feature keynote lectures, scientific sessions, oral presentations, poster exhibitions, technical-commercial talks, thematic workshops, as well as social events, technical visits to aquaculture sites, and specially designed tours for international attendees.
Organizers have confirmed that the event website https://eventosintesal.cl/congresos/sealice/ is now available for abstract submission, registration, and to stay up to date with the latest news about the conference, including the scientific committee composition and highlighted program topics.
