On Thursday, August 21, the Scientific Dialogues for Climate Action took place—a series of national workshops organized by the Scientific Advisory Committee on Climate Change and the Ministry of Science, Technology, Knowledge and Innovation (CTCI), aimed at strengthening Chile’s strategies in response to the climate crisis.
During the morning session, the Climate Change Communication Community Workshop was held, with participation from INCAR’s Outreach and Communications Team, represented by Pablo Carrasco and Edgardo Vera.
The activity, hosted at the Faculty of Chemical Sciences of the University of Concepción (UdeC), was aimed at professionals involved in science communication and outreach, with prior experience in climate change and environmental topics, as well as members of school communities (teachers and students) from the Ñuble and Biobío regions.
The workshop sought to identify recommendations, best practices, and tools to improve climate change science communication, based on the recognition and visibility of diverse institutional and individual scientific experiences, as well as the territorial knowledge contributed by participants. Using this input, the five macro-regional coordinations of MINCIENCIA will compile a list of recommendations to strengthen communication strategies in science, technology, and climate action.
In the afternoon session, a Climate Change Workshop was held for researchers with experience in climate-related topics such as Health and Climate, Ocean–Climate Nexus, Circular Economy, and the Water–Energy–Food Nexus. Representing the INCAR Center were Associate Researchers from the “Environmental Sustainability” line, Dr. Marcus Sobarzo and Dr. Eduardo Hernández.
The main goal of the workshop was to contribute to the development of four Thematic Reports that will guide climate-related decision-making in Chile. Each report aims to synthesize the most up-to-date scientific evidence to generate practical recommendations that strengthen public policy in the face of climate change.
These thematic reports and the recommendations for enhancing climate change science communication will be key inputs for the Chilean delegation at COP30, to be held in November 2025 in Brazil.
