The Applied Research Center (CIA), Interdisciplinary Center for Aquaculture Research – Applied Research, INCAR², will be present at AQUASUR 2026, the largest aquaculture fair in the Southern Hemisphere.
At the event, CIA INCAR² will participate with a booth where visitors can learn about the center’s capacities, services, and technologies developed to boost salmon farming and mussel farming. These include advanced scientific and technological solutions for the main challenges of Chilean aquaculture, such as vaccines, tools to reduce antimicrobial use, environmental models, and climate resilience strategies, with an emphasis on sustainable solutions, competitiveness, animal welfare, and effective transfer to the productive sector.
In this new cycle, the Center is directed by Dr. Cristian Gallardo-Escárate, Professor at the Department of Oceanography of the University of Concepción (UdeC), and will feature eight research lines: “New vaccines for fish” (Principal Investigator Dr. Valentina Valenzuela Muñoz, UdeC); “Fish diseases and antimicrobial resistance” (Principal Investigator Dr. Rubén Avendaño-Herrera, UNAB); “Omics solutions for aquaculture” (Principal Investigator Dr. Cristian Gallardo-Escárate, UdeC); “Stress and animal welfare” (Principal Investigator Dr. Juan Antonio Valdés Muñoz, UNAB); “Impacts of aquaculture on ecosystems” (Principal Investigator Dr. Renato Quiñones Bergeret, UdeC); “Increasing resilience in aquaculture” (Principal Investigator Dr. Doris Soto Benavides, UdeC); “Sustainable interactions between aquaculture, fisheries, and ecosystems” (Principal Investigator Dr. Carlos Molinet Flores, UACh); and “Socioeconomic impacts, governance, and market dynamics” (Principal Investigator Dr. Carlos Chávez Rebolledo, UTalca).
Additionally, within the framework of the AQUASUR International Congress, Professor at Andrés Bello University (UNAB) and Deputy Director of INCAR² will lead the seminar “From Knowledge to Sustainability: The Role of INCAR in Salmon Farming”, which will take place on Wednesday, March 25, starting at 4:30 p.m.
Throughout the three days of the event, the center will welcome attendees at booth 78 to showcase INCAR²’s capacities, services, and technologies aimed at transforming science into solutions for the sector.
