Biography

She studied Marine Biology at the University of Concepción, then completed a Master's degree in Natural Resources and Environmental Economics at the same university, taught by the Faculty of Economics and Administration. During this period, he began his career at the National Fisheries Service of the Bio Bio region. Additionally, during this time, he participated in research projects that linked fisheries and aquaculture issues with economics and sociology, collaborating closely with professors and researchers from the Department of Economics at the University of Concepción.
He subsequently developed his career at the Undersecretary of Fisheries and Aquaculture, specifically in the Zonal Directorate of Fisheries and Aquaculture of the Bio Bio region for approximately eight years. Throughout this period, he continued to collaborate on various research projects with researchers from the Department of Economics at the University of Concepción, on topics such as the evaluation of management measures in both fisheries and aquaculture, employment estimation, the ecosystem approach in fisheries and aquaculture, and governance. From 2018 to 2021, as a research assistant, he was part of the marine program funded by the Environment for Development (EfD) initiative (www.efdinitiative.org), which included fisheries, aquaculture, and plastic waste topics, based at the Faculty of Economics and Administration, University of Concepción. His work within this program included the application of performance indicators in common sardine and anchovy fisheries in south-central Chile and the anchovy fishery in northern Chile and southern Peru, and the application of performance indicators in aquaculture for pelillo, northern oyster, and mussel resources. He also participated in the implementation and subsequent evaluation of an environmental education program aimed at educational institutions on plastic pollution in the oceans. All of this work culminated in scientific publications. Finally, within the framework of EfD-Chile, she participated in the project "Community and Consumer Perceptions of the Farmed Seafood Industry."
