This Monday, June 15, the registration process officially opened for the first International Conference on Salmon Rickettsial Syndrome (SRS2026): Integrating Science, Industry and Policy for Sustainable Salmon Aquaculture, which will be held in Puerto Varas, Los Lagos Region, Chile.
Along with the opening of registrations, the organizers announced the start of the scientific abstract submission process, inviting researchers, graduate students, and professionals to share results from unpublished and innovative research on the understanding, prevention, monitoring, and control of the disease caused by Piscirickettsia salmonis.
Dr. Rubén Avendaño Herrera, professor at Universidad Andrés Bello and leader of the SRS Initiative at the INCAR² Center, stated:
“We aim to promote the exchange of ideas and collaboration among science, industry, and regulatory bodies to accelerate progress that strengthens a more sustainable, efficient, and evidence-based salmon farming industry. In this context, SRS2026 was created to bring together the international scientific community, industry stakeholders, and regulators around a shared challenge: deepening understanding and advancing control of Salmon Rickettsial Syndrome.
We invite researchers, professionals, and graduate students working in research and innovation in this field to register and submit original scientific work, particularly contributions that provide new evidence, innovative approaches, and concrete solutions for the prevention, monitoring, and control of SRS. We aspire for this conference to become the leading global platform for sharing knowledge, experiences, technological developments, and high-impact proposals to address the challenges posed by this disease.”
The scientific program of SRS2026 includes six thematic sessions that will address key aspects for understanding and tackling this disease from different perspectives. Topics include Animal Health and Welfare, Environmental Epidemiology and Predictive Modeling, SRS Control Tools, and Technological and Biotechnological Tools for its Control, among other modules focused on the interaction between science, industry, and public policy.
